Description:
Shrubs to 1.5 m tall; stem terete, densely velutinous with minute stellate hairs, rarely intermingled with few, scattered simple hairs. Leaves alternate, 4-10 x 4-8.5 cm, ovate-cordate, acute or subobtuse at apex, cordate at base, sparsely stellate hairy above, densely so beneath, 7-9 nerved from base, margins coarsely crenate-serrate; petioles 1.5-9 cm long, stellate-hairy; stipules up to 5 mm long, linear, stellate-hairy, reflexed. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedicel 3.5-5.5 cm long, much longer than the subtending petioles, articulate 3 mm below the flower, densely stellate-hairy. Calyx pale green, 15 mm long, 7 mm diam., narrowly campanulate, 5-parted, divided to the middle, the lobes 9 x 4.5 mm, ovate, acuminate at apex, densely stellate velutinous externally and densely pubescent with appressed stellate hairs and simple hairs internally. Corolla 2-2.5 cm diam., uniformly orange-yellow; petals 8 x 9 mm, broadly ovate with an emarginate apex, glabrous above and beneath, slightly stellate-hairy towards base externally on margins. Staminal column 7 mm long, glabrous throughout, tube short, upto 2.5 mm long, antheriferous at apex, base broad, 4 mm diam., pale yellow. Ovary 4.5 x 5.5 mm, subglobose with a slightly flattened apex, densely pubescent with long silvery white hairs; styles 17-20, 4.5 mm long, glabrous; stigmas globose, yellow. Schizocarp 10 mm long, 13 mm diam., globular with a flattened apex, as long or slightly exceeding the calyx lobes; mericarps 17-20, 10 x 6 mm, flattened-reniform, black when mature, apically acuminate, dorsal surface densely clothed with long silky white stellate hairs; seeds 2-3 per mericarp, 3 x 2.5 mm, reniform, minutely tuberculate, glabrous except at hilum, brown.
