  Description: Young shoots densely brown tomentose. Leaves simple, in whorls of 3-8 or opposite or subopposite; petiole 5-13 mm long, stout, tomentose; lamina 4-6 x 1.5-3 cm long, obovate or elliptic-obovate, base acute or cuneate, apex obtuse, margin entire, pubescent above, glabrous and glaucous beneath, coriaceous, reticulate; lateral nerves 5-8 pairs, pinnate, slender, prominent, ascending at an angle of 200-300 from midrib; intercostae scalariform, faint. Flowers small, unisexual, yellowish-green, in lateral and axillary umbellate fascicles; bracts scaly, 2 mm long, ovate; perianth campanulate in female flowers, tube 0.1 cm long; lobes 6 in male flowers; ovate, silky brown hairy without; stamens 9 in 3 rows; filaments villous, 2 glandular; anthers introrse; staminodes 9, in 3 rows, those of the third row linear with 2 glands; ovary half inferior, 0.05 cm across, attenuate into the style; stigma dilated. Fruit a berry 0.4-0.6 cm across, with persistent perianth lobes.
