Description:
Trees. Leaves 4-8 in a whorl, penninerved, up to 23 x 6 cm, oblong-lanceolate, acute at both ends, glabrous, glaucous beneath, chartaceous; nerves 8-10 pairs, very oblique; petioles .8-1.2 cm long, stout. Flowers small, dioecious, in dense globose silkily tomentose clusters, females very shortly peduncled; bracts imbricate, caducous. Perianth-tube short; lobes 6, subequal. Stamens in male flowers 9, those of the 1st and 2nd row opposite the perianth-lobes, those of the 3rd row opposite those of the 1st, filaments 2-glandular; anthers all oblong, introrse, 4-celled, filaments slender. Staminodes in female flowers also 9, those of the 1st and 2nd rows spathulate or linear, those of the 3rd row linear and 2-glandular. Ovary in female flowers ovoid, attenuate into the style; stigma dilated; in male flowers 0 or a pistillode. Fruit a berry.
