Description:
Erect, simple or often much-branched in the upper part, annual herbs, stems obtuse-angular, purple-tinged, glabrous except short-hairy young parts. Leaves alternate, 10-30 x 3-15 cm, ovate-elliptic to rhomboid-oblong, with a cuneate or acute and decurrent base, obtuse or acute, mucronate, subentire-crenulate, often tinged with purple; petiole 1.5-10 cm long. Flower-clusters in erect or terminal, often axillary panicles, 10-40 cm long; bracts ovate, acuminate, 0.2-0.25 cm long. Male flowers: tepals red, ovate-oblong, mucronate, 0.2-0.25 cm long. Stamens 5. Female flowers: Stigmas 3. Utricles 0.2 cm long.
