  Description: Annual herbs, culms tufted, to 50 cm; nodes glabrous. Leaves 5-22 x 0.2-0.4 cm, adaxially glabrous, scaberulous abaxially and on margins, tip setiform; ligule ovate, scarious. Racemes 2-4, to 4 cm, subtended by linear-lanceolate bracts; sessile spikelet and pedicel of upper spikelet silky villous. Spikelets lanceolate, to 0.7 cm. Lower glume lanceolate, to 0.6 cm, shallowly depressed near base, glabrous, narrowly winged; upper glume linear-oblong, as long as lower glume, coriaceous, keeled; keel narrowly winged, margins ciliate; lower lemma oblong, ciliate, 2-veined; palea minute or 0; upper lemma oblong, deeply 2-fid, hyaline, ciliate, awned, epaleate; awn capillary, geniculate, to 1.2 cm. Pedicelled spikelets to 0.6 cm.
