Description:
Culms 20-40 cm high, nodes glabrous. Leaves 2-5 x 0.5-1 cm rigid, margin coriaceous, serrate; lower serrations spinulose; ligule membranous, 2-3 mm long. Racemes 4-6 cm long. Sessile spikelets 7 mm long; callus hairy; lower glume 7 x 1.5 mm; keels with penicillate tubercles towards the apex; upper glume 7.5 x 2 mm, keel serrate; first lemma linear-oblong; second lemma cleft at the apex; awn 15-20 mm long. Lower pedicelled spikelets reduced to pedicels; upper developed, 4 mm long, lanceolate; pedicel 3 mm long, ciliate; lower glume 4 x 1 mm, lanceolate, with two rows of tubercles along the keels; upper glume, lanceolate, 3-nerved, keeled. Florets two; lower barren, upper male, second lemma bifid at apex and with a small protuberance in the sinus.
