Description:
Herbs; stems 60-120 cm, geniculately branched below. Leaves 2.5-6 cm, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, finely acuminate and sheaths glabrous or hairy. Spikes many, 2.6-7 cm; rachis and pedicels nearly glabrous; spikelets ovate-lanceolate, purplish. Glumes 4; first glume oblong-lanceolate, subacute, convex, nerves 7 pairs tubercled nearly to the base; second glume acute, keel, ciliate, 3-nerved, margins with deflexed cilia, awn short; third glume small, hyaline; fourth glume not much shorter than second, lanceolate, keeled, hyaline, awn subbasal, shortly exserted. Peduncle long, usually naked, slender. Lodicules subquadrate. Stamens 2-3; anthers very large. Styles short or 0; stigmas long, laterally exserted.
