Description:
Shrubs; stem woody, glabrous, cylindrical; internodes 6-8 cm long; nodes pulvinous. Leaves opposite, ca. 17 x 6 cm, elliptic attenuate at base, acute at apex, entire, glabrous; petioles 2-2.5 cm long. Inflorescence terminal in fascicles of 2-3, 4-5 cm long; bracts elliptic-lanceolate, acute-mucronate, entire, ciliate along margins, 1.5-2 x ca 0.5 cm, dark reddish with green midrib; lateral nerves 3 or 4 pairs; bracteoles 2, minute. Calyx-lobes 5, lanceolate, 4-6 x ca 1 mm, basal part green, upper part reddish brown, ciliate and glandular hairy. Corolla-tube ca 4 cm long, hairy on the surface, blipped; lower lip ca 1.5 x 0.9 cm; upper lip narrow, pale yellowish green, 6-8 x 1-2 mm. Stamens 2, attached near the throat of the tube; filaments 1-1.5 cm long, sparsely hairy; anther-thecae ca 3 mm long. Ovary ca 4 x 2 mm; style 3-4 cm long, ciliate; stigma simple. Capsules ellipsoidal, compressed, stalked below the flattened region, with small apical beak, 2-2.5 x 1 -1.5 cm, ciliate; seeds 2, large, ca 6 x 6 mm across, white, basal notch present.
