Description:
Shrubs to small trees, 2-8 m high; branches terete, glabrous; nodes slightly swollen; branchlets compressed, finely grey pubescent. Leaves opposite, 2.5-6 x 1.5-3 cm, elliptic-ovate, thin coriaceous, finely fulvous pubescent when young, later glabrescent, attenuate at base, revolute along margins, caudate-acuminate at apex (ca 7 mm long), pellucid punctuate; lateral nerves ca 12 pairs, rather visible beneath, intra-marginally looped; tertiary nerves indistinct; petiole 0.7-1 cm long, fulvous pubescent, later glabrescent, rounded beneath, flat, narrowly grooved above. Inflorescence supra-axillary/ axillary (solitary or binate) or terminal 4-6 flowered racemes; peduncle ca 5 mm long, brown pubescent. Flowers ca 1 cm across, white; pedicels slender, 5-12 mm long, finely fulvous pubescent; bracteoles 2, linear, ca 2 x 0.5 mm, densely fulvous pubescent, persistent or later deciduous. Calyx-tube ca 2 mm long, finely fulvous pubescent outside; lobes 4 (2+2), sub-equal; outer, ovate, ca 3 x 2 mm, fulvous pubescent outside, glabrous inside, reflexed, incurved, obtusely acute at apex; inner ca 4 x 2.5 mm, orbicular. Petals 4, orbicular, concave, 4-4.5 x 3-3.5 mm, white, sparsely punctate, ciliate along margins, 5-nerved from base, truncate at base, rounded at apex. Disc ca 3 mm across, 4-gonous, ca 0.5 mm thick, densely fulvous pubescent. Stamens many, unequal; filaments filiform, 1.5-3 mm long; anthers ovate, 2-loculed, ventrifixed, ca 0.5 m diam., latrose. Ovary inferior, conical, ca 3 mm long, 2-loucalr, densely fulvous pubescent outside; ovules many in axile placenta; style 4-7 mm long, pubescent half below, thickening towards base; stigma simple. Fruits a berry, globose, ca 2 cm across.
