Description:
Climbing perennial shrubs. Leaves sessile, 10-25 x 3-5 cm, lanceolate, base sheathing, 2-auricled, apex finely acuminate, cirrhose, many-nerved, coriaceous; sheaths longer than the internodes. Flowers bisexual, sessile, small in terminal 6-15 cm long panicles. Perianth-lobes 6, cream-coloured, 2-2.5 mm long, 1 or 2 outer suborbicular or ovate and inner whorl usually narrower, persistent. Stamens 6, exserted; filaments c. 2.5 mm long, persistent; anthers linear. Ovary c. 1.5 mm long, trigonous; style very short or none; stigmas 3, long and spreading. Drupe 5-7 mm across, globose, 1-3-seeded, red or finally black; the perianth and filaments becoming chaffy and persisting beneath the drupe.
