Description:
Trees, to about 10 m tall; young stems glabrous, often swollen and inhabited by ants; leaves pinnate, alternate, rachis about 1-20 cm long, glabrous or nearly so; leaflets 3-5 pairs, ovate to ovate-oblong or lanceolate-oblong, about 4-15 cm long, 2-5.5 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, obliquely rounded to cuneate at the base, glabrous, nitid above, puberulent beneath, usually glabrous at maturity; stipules leaflike above the point of insertion, about 2-3.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, acute, the lower portion falcate. Inflorescences axillary, racemose or paniculate, 8-12 cm long; bracts deltoid, about 4 mm long; bracteoles oblong-spathulate, 6-7 mm long; bracts deltoid, about 4 mm long; bracteoles oblong-spathulate, 6-7 mm long. Calyx usually reddish or orangish with tube about 3 mm long, segments 8-10 mm long, subequal. Petals 5, white, 10-12 mm long. Stamens exserted to about 12-20 mm long. Fruit puberulent or subglabrous when young, glabrous at maturity, ellipsoid, compressed, 5-10 cm long, 2.5-3 cm wide; seeds 3-4.
