Description:
Vines; the stems twining, glabrous, becoming woody with age, lenticellate; perennial. Leaves orbicular in outline, 5-20 cm long and wide, deeply palmately lobed to beyond the middle or to the base into 3-5 segments, middle segment usually larger than laterals, ovate, elliptic or elliptic-oblong, mostly attenuate towards both ends, acuminate apically with an acute or obtuse, mucronulate point, the lateral segments ovate-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, margins of segments slightly crisped, entire or coarsely dentate to crenate. Inflorescences axillary, few- to several-flowered, widely cymosely branched, the peduncle 1.5-14 cm long. Flowers with pedicels 8-15 mm long; sepals subequal or the outer slightly shorter, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, obtuse, concave, 7-10 mm long; corolla red or red-purple, salverform, the tube about 4 cm long, the limb 4-4.5 cm wide, stamens and style exserted.
