Description:
Trees, to 20 m, bark yellowish-brown, smooth; branches drooping, slender, terete; young branches, peduncle and pedicel stellately rusty tomentose. Leaves simple, alternate, distichous, stipulate; stipules 4 mm long, linear, free, lateral, minutely pubescent, cauducous; petiole 5-12 mm long, slender, stellately tomentose; lamina 5-19 x 1-7 cm, lanceolate or oblong-acuminate, base obtuse, round or truncate, apex acute or acuminate, margin entire, sparsely stellate-tomentose above and densely stellate-tomentose beneath, coriaceous; 3-nerved at base, palmate, prominent; with a linear gland at the base of the midrib beneath, lateral nerves 4-5 pairs, pinnate, prominent, intercostae scalariform, prominent. Flowers bisexual, yellow, in lax axillary and terminal pendulous panicles; pedicel 3-7 mm long, slender, stellate-tomentose; involucellar bracts 4, 8.5 × 6 mm, connate at base, broadly ovate, acute or subobtuse at apex, densely stellate-tomentose outside and sericeous inside; calyx 5-lobed, lobes 6 x 3 mm, much smaller than the involucellar bracts, accrescent, densely pubescent with minute stellate hairs; corolla yellowish with reddish centre; petals 5, oblong or obovate, connate at base, minutely stellate-hairy externally; staminal tube 3.5 mm long, 5-toothed at apex, glabrous, staminiferous towards middle; anthers 10, reniform; filaments slender, 2.5 mm long, sparsely pubescent; ovary superior, ovoid, stellate-hairy, 2-3 locular, ovules 1-2 per locule; style 7 mm long, 2(-3) branched towards apices; stigma, peltate, minutely rugose. Fruit a capsule, 8 mm across, indehiscent, compressed-subglobose with a short beak at apex, completely enclosed within accrescent calyx, densely pubescent with minute stellate and simple hairs; seeds reniform, concentrically striated, brownish-black.
