Description:
A rather small shrub, up to 2 m high. Branchlets subterete. Leaves narrowly elliptic, 4.5-8.5 x 0.7-1.5 cm, very cuneate at the base and narrowed into a short but distinct petiole, caudate and obtuse to rounded at the very apex, mid-ribbed and narrowly sulcate above, coriaceous, shining above; foliar sclereids narrowly filiform. Inflorescences umbel-shaped, 8-20 mm diam., sessile or with up to 5 mm long primary axes in the leaf axils or occasionally a few inflorescences at the nodes on the branches just below the leaves. Pedicels 2-3 times the calyx length. Buds obtuse to rounded and often somewhat apiculate at the apex, with exposed petals. Calyx 2.3-3.1 mm wide, blue, smooth inside, shallowly 4-lobed. Petals widely elliptic-obovate, blue, occasionally pink, often with whitish tips. Filaments and style blue, occasionally pink. Anthers 0.9-1.4 mm long; connective blue, occasionally pink, with a gland. Fruit globose, blue to black, c. 6 mm diam. Embryo with fleshy cotyledons and a short hypocotyl.
