Description:
Large shrubs, upto 4 m tall or more; not or scarcely branched; leaves comparatively large, linear, apex gradually attenuate; lamina coriaceous, 2 m long or more to 8.5 cm wide; margins and midrib(beneath) armed with sharp prickles, ventral pleats smooth unarmed. Margins, towards the base(but leaf base not seen) with small antrorse prickles, about 1.5-1.7 mm long, 5-8 mm apart; towards the apex the prickles more crowded(1-3 mm apart) but not much smaller except at extreme apex where they are 0.5 mm long; midrib prickles similar to those of adjacent margin, but much more remote, upto 30-35 mm apart, except along the apex, where their spacing is alike also. Reticulations not or but little evident. Longitudinal nerves conspicuous, c. 128 /1 f, prominulent on both surfaces but especially so abaxially.
