Description:
Tall tree; young stems pubescent, glabrescent; leaves imparipinnate, 5-8 foliolate, the axis essentially glabrous, about 10-16 cm long; stipules not seen; stipels minute, caducous or absent; leaflets alternate or sometimes subopposite, the blades ovate to elliptic-ovate, about 4-9 cm long and 2.5-5 cm broad, acute to breviacuminate, rounded at the base, the surfaces essentially glabrous, the secondary veins only moderately conspicuous; inflorescences racemose or paniculate, axillary or pseudoterminal, about 6-10 cm long, the axis appressed-pubescent; bracts lanceolate, pubescent, about 1 mm long, caducous; bracteoles minute, pubescent, caducous, about 1 mm long, caducous; flowers about 2 cm long; calyx moderately appressed-pubescent, glabrescent, tomentulose within, about 15 mm long, the tube 8-9 mm long, the lobes acute, the two vexillar lobes about 6 mm long, the carinal 3-4 mm long; petals blackish-purple, the vexillum glabrous on the outer face; stamens essentially equal, separate to the base, the anthers minute, dorsifixed; ovary pubescent along the margins; fruit glabrous at maturity, indehiscent, compressed, 1-6-seeded, 6-15 cm long including stipe 5-10 mm long and 2.5-3.5 cm broad including thickened sutures or marginal wings 1-3 mm wide, the valves subcoriaceous; seeds reddish-brown, compressed, elliptic, about 15 mm long, 7-8 mm wide and 4 mm thick, the hilum orbicular, about 1 mm in diameter, essentially apical.
