Description:
Subshrubs; stems hardly tetragonous, not winged. Leaves opposite, up to 3.5 cm long, thicker, ovate, subcordate, crenate, rugose or bullate, glandular-hairy, acute; main nerves 6-7 pairs, with prominent nerves; petioles not auricled. Spikes longer 2.5-7.5 cm long. Flowers blue, in cylindric one-sided spikes; bracts usually rounded and concave, ovate, acute or cuspidate, softly hairy. Corolla funnel-shaped, 2.5 cm long. Stamens 4 fertile, usually monadelphous; filament sheath straight, filaments combined below in a sheath more or less adherent to the corolla-tube, but the margins usually free; outer anthers larger than inner. Ovary 2-celled, ovules 2 in each cell; style linear. Fruit 2 or 4 seeded capsule; seeds hairy when wet, except on the areoles.
