  Description: Evergreen trees, to 20 m high; bark surface blackish-grey, rough; branchlets terete. Leaves simple, opposite, 3.5-9 x 1.8-3.7 cm, elliptic, elliptic-lanceolate or elliptic-oblong, apex acuminate or caudate acuminate, base attenuate or acute, margin entire, glabrous, glandular punctate, coriaceous, olive-green when dry; petiole 3-20 mm long, slender, grooved above, glabrous; lateral nerves many, parallel, close, prominent, looped at the margin forming intramarginal nerve, intercostae reticulate, prominent. Flowers bisexual, creamy, 10-12 mm long, sessile, in dense clusters forming compact, terminal trichotomous cymes. Calyx tube to 5 mm, turbinate; lobes 4; no thick disc. Petals free, deciduous. Stamens many free, bent inwards at the middle in bud. Ovary inferior, 2-celled, ovules many; style 1; stigma simple. Fruit a berry, oblong-ovoid, dark purple, fleshy.
