Description:
Densely tufted perennials. Culms decumbent, 48-65 cm high, smooth, sparsely tuberculate hariy, greenish to purple towards apex. Leaf blade linear-lanceolate, 8-14 x ca. 0.7 cm , acuminate at apex, subcordate, rounded or rarely truncate at base, serrulate at margins towards apex, sparsely tuberculate hairy, greenish, turning yellowish at maturity; ligule 0.6-0.8 mm, membranous, hyaline, sparsely ciliate hairy at apex or not; leaf sheath 5.5-6.5 cm, ciliate on one margin, ribbed, sparsely tuberculate hairy when young, almost glabrous later. Panicle lax, 5-15 x 3-5 cm, purplish yellow; racemes crowded towards apex, central axis sparsely tuberculate hairy; nodes hairy or not; peduncle ca. 28 cm long, purplish, initially sparsely tuberculate hairy towards apex, later on glabrous. Lower racemes 2-5.5 cm, rachis and branch axils clearly and sparsely scabrid. Spikelets paired, more or less glabrous, pedicellate, elliptic to ovate lanceolate, 4-4.2 x ca. 2.3 mm, acuminate at apex, rounded at base, greenish to purplish; pedicels solid, much longer than 4 mm, triquetrous, scabrid, purplish. Glumes divergent, subequal to unequal, persistent. Lower glume ovate-lanceolate, 2.8-4 x ca. 1 mm, acuminate, chartaceous, prominently 3-nerved, nerves scabrellate or barbellate, purplish green. Upper glumes ovate-lanceolate, 3.6-4.2 x 0.8-1.2 mm, long acuminate, chartaceous, 3-5 nerved, lateral nerves faint, scabrellate towards apex, purplish. Florets 2; lower male, upper bisexual, awned; disarticulating above glumes; callus bearded. Lower lemma ovate-lanceolate, 3-3.2 x ca. 1 mm, acute, chartaceous, 3-5 nerved, purplish green. Lower palea oblong to elliptic, 2.2-2.7 x ca. 0.7 mm, acute, infolded and finely ciliate at margins, chartaceous, hyaline, 2-nerved, 2-keeled, keels finely scabrellate towards apex. Upper lemma ovate, 1.6-1.8 x ca. 0.5 mm, acute, shortly 2-lobed or teethed at apex, awned, rounded at base, subcoriaceous, scabrellate to granulate above middle, faintly 3-nerved, greenish; awn geniculate, column twisted, 1-1.2 mm, blackish, bristle 1.5-2.3 mm, barbellate. Upper palea ovate to oblong, ca. 1.7 x 0.4 mm, acute to obtuse at apex, rounded or truncate at base, chartaceous or subcoriaceous, scabrellate, 2-nerved, faintly 2-keeled. Lodicules 2, ca. 0.4 mm, membranous, hyaline. Stamens 3; anthers ca. 1.2 mm, purplish brown; filaments ca 1.2 mm, hyaline. Ovary ovate, 0.3-0.4 mm, acute; styles divergent, ca. 0.5 mm long; stigma plumose, ca. 1.2 mm, purplish.
