Description:
Glabrous shrubs or trees, 1.5-12 m high; branchlets brown or black. Leaves alternate, 5-15 x 1.5-6.5 cm, elliptic, oblong, ovate to lanceolate, sometimes subfalcate, acute, rounded or inequilateral at base and decurrent on the petioles at the extreme base, sometimes curling upwards along margins on drying, apiculate to acuminate or caudate at apex, thinly or occasionally stiffly coriaceous, often glaucous beneath; lateral nerves 3-10 pairs, faint to prominent above, conspicuous beneath; tertiary nerves scalariform or laxly reticulate; petioles 2-6 x 0.5-1.5 mm. Inflorescence few-flowered (females) or many-flowered (males), sometimes bisexual. Male flowers: pedicels 5-15 mm long; tepals 3 + 3, narrowly oblong to spathulate, 2-5 x 1-2 mm, occasionally puberulous; anthers 3-4, ca 2 mm long. Female flowers : sessile; calyx cupular or sometimes obconic, 1.5-3.5 x 2-3 mm, irregularly 4-6 toothed; teeth triangular, deltoid or suborbicular, 0.4-1.2 mm long, obtuse to subacute; ovary depressed, ca 0.5 x 1.5-2 mm, 3-5(-6)-locular, fulvous-tomentose to glabrous; style 3-5 connate into a subglobose or discoid mass, 0.8-2 x 1.5-3 mm, sometimes free or connate only at base globose, deltoid or triangular, 0.6-1.2 x 0.8-1.2 mm. Capsules depressed, 2-5 x 6-12 mm, 3-5locular, deeply lobed with the lobes bilobulate, scattered adpressed - puberulous to glabrous; pedicels absent or very short.
